Our Board

The Board of Baptist World Aid Australia is responsible for the governance of the organisation. Some of their responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for Baptist World Aid Australia, reviewing the performance of the organisation against targets, assessing the performance of the National Director, approving the annual budget and serving on governance committees.

Board members serve for a maximum period of six years. Service on the Board is voluntary.

During FY09/10 the Board took part in several futher training opportunities: all board members attended training in a Rights Based Approach to Development; three Board members attended the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course; and one attended the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Board Essentials & Accountability Training.

Mr David Clark
Chair of the Board; Programs Performance Committee
Qualifications: B. Economics; Grad. Dip Economics

David has many years experience in the aid and development sector. He worked for AusAID and also for the programs sections of the World Bank in various roles during his career. He joined the Board in 2006 and has served as Chair since 2007.


 

Rev. Keith Jobberns
Qualifications: B. Economics; B. Theology; Dip. Ministry; Dip Education

Keith is the general director of Global Interaction, the mission arm of the Baptist Union of Australia. He also serves on the Boards of Service Fellowship International, National Council Baptist Union of Australia, General Council Baptist World Alliance. He joined the Board in 2004.


 

Ms Ann Herbert

Qualifications: B. Arts (hons); Grad. Cert. Public Sector Leadership; Dip. Freelance Journalism

Ann has many years experience working in social policy. She has worked in the Tasmanian State Government as a Project Manager and is currently a Principal Policy Analyst in the Social Inclusion Unit. She has served on the Board since 2007.


 

Mrs Gwyn Milne
Governance and HR Committee
Qualifications: TPTC Theological Studies

Gwyn has completed many years service in leadership of the Baptist Church. As a former president of the Baptist Union of Victoria and the immediate past president of the Baptist Union of Australia, she has represented the Baptist Union of Australia on the Board since 2002. She also has experience as a teacher and pastor.


 

Mr Andrew Ellis

Qualifications: BE(Mech), MProjMgmt, MBA

Andrew is a former Board Intern, appointed as a Board Member in 2009. His skills and experience include Risk Management, Strategic Planning, and Quality/Health, Safety and Environment processes.


 

Mr Mick Turnbull
Marketing and Communications Committee
Qualifications: Cert Business (RMIT); Grad. Dip Management (USQ)


Joining the Board in May 2011, Mick has 30 years experience in business and management, and is currently the Regional CEO for a large global logistics company. He is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Member Company Directors Institute, Fellow Customs Brokers Council of Aust and Member Australian Institute of Export. Mick is also Chair and Director of Tabor Victoria, and Director of Business for Millenium Development (assisting business to support developing countries reach their millennium goals. Mick worships at Syndal Baptist Church, Melbourne.


 

Mr Brad Entwistle
Marketing and Communications Committee

Brad is the founder and managing director of marketing communications firm Image 7 Group. He also serves on the Boards of Perth’s Sonshine FM radio stations and the Baptist Union of Western Australia. He joined the Board in 2008.


 

Mr Phil Newman
Finance and Investments Committee
Qualifications: Dip. Financial Planning; Certified Financial Planner (CFP)


Phil works as a Certified Financial Planner and is currently a Practice Manager with the BT Financial Group. Phil joined the Board in May 2009.


 

Mr Paul Oates
Treasurer; Finance and Investments Committee
Qualifications: B. Commerce; Chartered Accountant

Paul has worked for many years as the Business Manager of Carey Baptist College and also has experience in auditing with the Deloitte group. He also serves on the Boards of Baplink (the Western Australia Baptist Union’s finance arm) and the Carey Community Baptist Church. Paul joined the Board in May 2009.



Mr Simon Lynch
Programs Performance Committee
Qualifications: B. Economics


Simon has extensive experience in consulting in the for profit and non profit sectors and as a country and regional director in the aid and development sector, especially in Indonesia and Timor Lorosa’e. He serves on the Board of the TLM Foundation in West Timor and has helped establish and develop the Boards of numerous other overseas development organisations in the region. Simon joined the Board in May 2009.


Mr Dave Rowe
Finance and Investments Committee
Qualifications: B. Economics, Grad Dip (Morling)


Dave joined the Board in 2010. Dave’s skills are in the area of Finance. Having formerly been Head of Treasury and Head of Risk Management for an international investment bank he is currently in the role of Senior Consultant with Noah’s Rule Risk Advisory, providing advice to financial service organisations and companies in developing and measuring risk frameworks. Dave also holds the role of Senior Pastor with Seaforth Baptist Church (NSW).

Mr Daniel Wallis

Qualifications: Bachelor of Ministry


Daniel joined the Board in May 2010. Daniel’s interest and skills are in the area of Hospitality Management, governance and human resources. He currently holds the role of Associate Pastor at Geebung Baptist Church (QLD) and works as a business manager.
