Welcome to Baptist World Aid Australia

Introducing 58ers

Baptist World Aid Australia is looking for people in Australian churches to champion a whole-of-life approach to poverty alleviation that sees help for the poor and vulnerable as central to our Christian discipleship. To be a 58er is to adopt the mandate of Isaiah 58; to protect the poor and vulnerable, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and shelter the homeless.

We are excited about the impact that this program will have in your church and in churches all around Australia. Our vision is to see people in Australian churches inspired toward a whole-of-life approach to poverty alleviation that recognises that helping the poor and vulnerable is central to our Christian discipleship.

By capturing God’s heart for people living in poverty and then by expressing His heart through action, we believe that you, standing together with the people in your church, will make real and measurable changes in the lives of poor people around the world. We believe that as these lives are transformed as a result of poverty alleviation they will experience God’s restorative work.

If you are interested in becoming a 58er and helping your church respond to poverty or you would like more information, register here.

We will then send you a resource kit which will help your church effectively engage with issues of poverty and injustice around the world. This resource kit contains:

  • An explanation of what it means to make a biblical response to poverty.
  • Factsheets about our various programs
  • Baptist World Aid Australia’s approach to poverty
  • Baptist World Aid Australia’s approach to promotion
  • How you can use the 58ers program in your church
  • Designing your approach
  • Contacts list
  • Information on how to use Baptist World Aid Australia’s website

These resources will help you and your church to be inspired toward seeing our response to the poor as an integral part of our Christian discipleship. With your help more lives will be transformed and the poor empowered to lift themselves out of poverty.
